How to Plan an Inexpensive Wedding:

Step One: Visit this website, which has a comprehensive database of all the sites on the National Register of Historic Places.

Step Two: Find your state and county.

Step Three: Command-F “event.”

Step Four: Google the places that include the word “event” in their descriptions.

Step Five: Call them.

Step Six: Laugh gleefully as they tell you you can rent entire buildings for twenty-five to fifty dollars a day.

Step Seven: Roll around in all the money you’re saving.

(We reserved an abandoned church for the ceremony and a WPA-constructed auditorium for the reception.  We had budgeted $750 for rental fees.  We ended up spending $75.  AWESOME.)
